Channing Tatum Talks About The Marvel Project He Was Going To Direct And It Never Got Real

In Hollywood, it is not uncommon for actors to decide to go one step further and start getting involved in directing and producing movies, thus working both behind and in front of the cameras. Many do amazing work and tell us that working on making movies is their passion.

The latest actor to do this is Channing Tatum, who decided to make the big leap into the world of film directing with the film dog, which also stars and will be released in North American theaters this month. But a few years ago, he was ready to become a director with a Marvel project, which, in the end, was forgotten.

They didn’t let him drive Gambit

Channing’s dream project was a movie based on the superhero Gambit, who appears in Marvel comics as a member of the X-Men. Channing even had a producer willing to work on the film, his friend Reid Carolin, who, by the way, produced dogbut from the beginning there were problems, since 20th Century Fox did not agree that the protagonist of Magic Mike was the director.

The studio didn’t want us to direct the movie. They wanted anyone, except us, because we had no directing experience.

“I loved Gambit”

However, Channing didn’t let this get to him and was willing to star in the film anyway, as he was “in love” with the script he had developed with Reid, which approached the superhero story as a romantic comedy and was going to be rated. R, how dead pool.

We will never know what happens in the big studios and why they decide to approve certain projects and scrap others, but the fact is that finally, after years in a perpetual stage of pre-production, the project was completely canceled in 2019 when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. For Channing, who had been preparing for this role for years, it was terrible news.

When they canceled ‘Gambit’, I was traumatized. I forgot about Marvel and I haven’t been able to watch any movies. I loved Gambit, the character, and the situation made me very sad. It was like losing a friend because he was so ready to play it.

Gambit was Super cool

Channing grew so fond of the character he never got to play that he defends and speaks fondly of him to this day. Furthermore, he says that he is still open to the possibility of bringing it to life, but that he doesn’t think he is the right person to direct it.

They said that Gambit was extravagant. I don’t think that’s true, he was just a super cool person. He could make – and use – anything. Most superheroes wear suits for utility or convenience, but Gambit only wears what he likes because he loves fashion. I’d love to play him, but I don’t think Reid and I should direct the project if it ever comes to fruition.
