Central Bank raises GDP growth forecast from 1% to 1.7% in 2022

The Central Bank raised its forecast for the growth of the Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in 2022 this Thursday (22) to 1.7%, compared to an estimate of 1% presented three months ago.

The BC cited uncertainties about forecasts. “The uncertainty in the projection remains higher than usual, in a scenario of the continuation of the war in Ukraine and of increasing risks of a global slowdown in a scenario of pressured inflation”, said the municipality in a presentation released to the press.

The BC said that there was a positive surprise in GDP in the first quarter, considering that the effects of the ongoing monetary tightening contribute to the projection of a slowdown in activity in the second half of the year.

The monetary authority also revised the forecast for a rise in the credit balance in 2022 to 11.9%, compared to 8.9% in the previous release.

In the case of current transactions, the surplus forecast in 2022 was 4 billion dollars, compared to 5 billion dollars before.
