Central Bank intends to accelerate digital currency project, says Campos Neto

The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, stated that he intends to accelerate the digital currency project by the Central Bank. The statement was made this Friday (30), in a lecture at the “DrumWave Day” event, held in São Paulo.

“We should have a CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) pilot ready for next year. This is the project that I pay the most attention to today, a project that we need to accelerate more. We are making an internal move at the Central Bank to support this project more.” said Campos Neto

Digital currency issued by the Central Bank, this is the translation of Central Bank Digital Currency. It is nothing more than a virtual version of a country’s currency, regulated by the monetary authority. With this digital currency it is possible to use it for purchases, stipulate the value of a product, save for the future, among other purposes.

During the lecture, Campos Neto also said that the world is migrating to a “tokenized” economy and that digital currencies complement this advance. “The real debate is whether we are migrating to a Tokanized economy. I think so, I think it will start to move forward. The digital currency completes this notion that we are going to the tokanized world.” completed the president.

“Tokenizing” would be an evolution of data and currency digitization. The expectation is that in the coming years tokens will become an efficiency tool for a number of new markets. “At some point, banks will look at their balance sheets in a tokanized way, they will tokanize assets and liabilities. This has several benefits.” highlighted Campos Neto.
