Cavusoglu: Sweden has not yet extradited to Turkey the suspects we are requesting

Sweden has yet to extradite suspects wanted by Turkey on terrorism-related charges despite signing a deal to lift Ankara’s veto of the Nordic country’s NATO accession last month, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut said today. Cavusoglu.

Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but faced opposition from Turkey, which accused the two Nordic countries of imposing an arms embargo on Ankara and supporting organizations it has labeled terrorist.

The three countries signed a deal to lift Ankara’s veto in exchange for commitments to counter terrorism, but Turkey has said it will block their accession efforts if those commitments are not met. Turkey is seeking the extradition of 73 people from Sweden, as well as about 10 others from Finland.
