Cat survives after being mailed and left without food and water for six days

A cat survived after being accidentally mailed by her owners and spending six days without food and water. The case took place in Utah, in the United States.

Carrie Stevens Clark and Matt Clark claim that Galena mysteriously disappeared on April 10, and that they spent a week searching for her, but were unsuccessful.

“We distributed a lot of flyers and contacted friends and family to help us with the search,” Carrie told KSL TV, an affiliate network of CNN.

“Galena is a great emotional support for me and has helped me overcome many health problems over the last six years. The anxiety and stress of not knowing what had happened to her were unbearable,” he added.

When they had almost given up hope of finding the pet, they were notified on April 17 by a call from a person who identified themselves as a veterinarian that the cat's microchip had been scanned more than 1,000 km away, in California.

“I just couldn't believe she was in California, I thought it was a prank. It’s still hard to understand,” Carrie said.

According to Galena's tutors, she loves playing in boxes. So, she ended up getting into a package that they were preparing to exchange shoes — they had purchased the objects in the “try before you buy” mode.

The cat was found by one of the company's employees, who took care of her before handing her over to a veterinarian.

After receiving the long-awaited news, Carrie and Matt booked a flight for the next day to reunite with Galena.

“It was an incredible reunion! Galena instantly stopped shaking and relaxed in my arms when I was able to hold her again,” said Carrie.

“Despite being thinner and with some mild dehydration, her blood test was completely normal and she was completely unharmed,” he highlighted.

“The box Galena was in was open at one seam, and that gave her air to breathe. The temperatures [que ela enfrentou] they were 'ideal' and it didn't overheat or freeze,” he concluded.

The family packed up and drove ten hours back home to Utah. Now, they encourage other owners to put microchips in their pets.
