Cat is rescued after being tortured for biting a child in Rio

The Environmental Protection Department opened an investigation to investigate the case of aggression against a cat that occurred last Wednesday (3) in Realengo, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.

In a video that went viral on social media, a woman identified as Jéssica Cardoso appears trying to choke the animal on the ground and then lifting the cat by the neck while being reprimanded by residents who witnessed the scene.

The attack took place in front of a fruit and vegetable store. According to witnesses, the woman claimed that the animal had bitten her daughter and therefore deserved to be “arrested”.

After being caught, the attacker left, taking the animal with her. Residents organized a protest in front of Jéssica's house and the cat was rescued.

The animal, which was already known in the region for being in front of the fruit and vegetable store, was kept inside a plastic bag and was found with many injuries, according to witnesses.

The cat was taken to receive veterinary care, where it was found that her nails were missing and her paws and mouth were injured.

In a note, the Civil Police informed that the case was registered at the 33rd DP (Realengo) and forwarded to the Environmental Protection Police Station (DPMA) for continued investigations.
