Case Ian: MG police reconstitute the crime where aggressions would have occurred

On Monday (13), the Civil Police of Minas Gerais carried out a simulated reconstruction of the facts to investigate the circumstances of the death of Ian, aged just 2, in January of this year, in the northern region of Belo Horizonte.

The work involved teams of 24 civil police officers, in addition to seven vehicles and a drone. Those investigated, the boy’s father and stepmother, participated in the reconstitution, following the legal procedures.

According to police chief Diego Lopes, the purpose of reconstructing the incident was to advance the lines of investigation.

“Through diligence, it was possible to visualize and identify points that can be confronted with other evidence contained in the investigation. The action was successful and we believe that it was possible to clarify details of the fact”, he highlights. The investigations continue under secrecy.

According to the Civil Police, Ian Almeida Rocha, aged just 2, died from a head injury. The suspects for the crime are the child’s father and stepmother. Still according to the police, the stepmother would have started with the aggressions against the boy.

The agents also point out that the trauma that caused Ian’s death was extensive and was caused by a “blunt instrument”. So far, the object has not been identified or released to the press. But the hypothesis is that it is a piece of wood or an iron bar.

The initial version of the suspicion is that a pressure cooker would have fallen to the floor and the boy would have slipped.

On January 8, the boy was admitted to Hospital João XXIII, in the capital of Minas Gerais, with a head injury, abrasions on his chin and swelling on his forehead. The complaint was made to the Military Police by the doctors who attended to the child and would have been suspicious of the arguments of those responsible. The boy died two days later. Parents were arrested red handed. Subsequently, justice converted the prisons into temporary ones.

A CNN contacted the defense of Márcio da Rocha Souza, Ian’s father, and Bruna Cristine dos Santos, the boy’s stepmother. Márcio’s lawyer stated that there was no failure to help on the part of the father or participation in any aggression and that they are confident in the Judiciary Power and in the Civil Police and their experts.

Bruna’s defense lawyer informed that he will have a new testimony from both Bruna and Márcio and that they should speak after the testimony. The defense reiterated that Bruna does not condone acts of violence and says she is innocent (see full notes below ).

Defense note from Ian’s stepmother, Bruna Cristine dos Santos

“There will be a new statement from her and also from her father. After this statement, we will speak again, but at the moment we will preserve what will be said in the statement, so as not to interfere with the investigations. Furthermore, Bruna did not condone any type of aggression, she always treated Ian as if he were her son, both he and the other daughter that she has special. They have always been and are very well taken care of by her. Bruna is very upset with this whole situation, with all this injustice that is being done to her, and all her innocence will be proven during this investigation”, Wellington Carlos Fernandes Silva.

Defense note from Ian’s father, Márcio da Rocha Souza

“In attention to the press and society, due to inaccurate and incomplete news conveyed by the media due to the death of Márcio’s only son, YAN, who was loved, cherished and pampered by his father.

Initially, it is important to emphasize that Márcio’s defense, represented by this lawyer, believed in his innocence from the beginning. We have repeatedly asked the competent authority, twice, for a simulated reproduction of the facts with the Delegate conducting the investigation, so that on this occasion it would be more crystal clear for the authorities how Márcio helped his son, how it was and that it did not take long, having come home from work, encountering the situations and then taking Yan to the hospital.

Márcio had a good relationship with Yan’s mother, they spoke on the phone frequently, and Yan stayed at his father’s house more than he should have, that is, more than the two he was responsible for.

At the opportunity, we offered witnesses who could clarify the facts, and we are also collaborating with the investigations.
Finally, the facts surrounding the death of the boy Yan have not yet been fully clarified, the testimonies given so far are not conclusive and do not indicate a possible authorship on the part of Márcio, there are no images that show the moment of death, and any speculation that transforms a simple investigator into a convict is frivolous and subject to civil and criminal liability.

There was no failure to help on the part of the father or participation in any aggression. The process runs in secrecy of justice.

Confident in the Judiciary, in the good work carried out by the Civil Police of the State of Minas Gerais and in its experts, in the press that must be serious, these are the clarifications that we believe are sufficient for the moment”, Sarah Quinetti Pironi.
