The restaurants The Pig House It is Oteque are the Brazilian representatives on the current list of 50 best restaurants in the world . The result is part of the ranking The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 announced on Wednesday night (5) at a ceremony in Las Vegas, in the United States.
A Pig House appears in 27th place in the ranking. Commanded by Janaína Torres elected the Best Chef in the world in 2024, and for Jefferson Rueda , the restaurant in the center of São Paulo had been in 12th place in last year’s ranking and in 4th place in the regional arm of 50 Best in Latin America. Located in the Republic, the house serves country cuisine and brings flavors from the interior of the state to the table in non-obvious and creative creations.
Already the Oteque piloted by Alberto Landgraf in Rio de Janeiro, it is in 37th position on this year’s list. The placement represents a significant jump, as it had ranked 76th last year as part of the extended world ranking list. In relation to the Latin American ranking, the restaurant had appeared in 20th position.
The elegant house is in Botafogo and the chef focuses on tasting menus based on vegetables, seafood and fish, in which he seeks out the best ingredients daily using modern techniques.
Spain in the lead
The title of best restaurant in the world in 2024 went to Enjoy in Barcelona, led by chefs Oriol Castro , Eduard Xatruch and Matthew Casañas . In 50 Best’s assessment, the restaurant opened in 2014 is one of the most experimental in the world, as it serves different tasting menus throughout the year based on innovation and creativity.
Secondly is the Asador Etxebarri , also from Spain. It is located between Bilbao and San Sebastian and is described by the ranking as a destination in its own right. At home, the chef Victor Arguinzoniz transforms ingredients into elevated dishes with the help of coals and the grill.
Closing the podium appears the Table by Bruno Verjus from Paris, led by chef Bruno Verjus.
The Peruvian Central , by chefs Virgilio Martínez and Pía Leon, topped the list last year and, due to the award rules, can no longer be chosen in the annual ranking. The restaurant has now entered the list of “best of the best “, where it shares space with names such as Geranium, Noma, Mirazur, Eleven Madison Park, Osteria Francescana, El Celler de Can Roca, The Fat Duck, The French Laundry and El Bulli.
