Carnaval 2024 will take place in mid-February; see dates

Less than two days after the end of the 2023 Carnival, many revelers are already starting the countdown to next year’s party.

In 2024, the blocks and electric trios can get ready to parade in the second week of February: the holiday falls on the 13th, and Ash Wednesday will be on the 14th.

Thus, the official Carnival period includes the 10th (Saturday), 11th (Sunday), 12th (Monday) and 13th (Tuesday, holiday).

This year, the return of revelers to the streets was marked. In São Paulo, the expectation was of more than 15 million people on the holiday and on the weekends before and after. In Salvador, the forecast was 1 million tourists.

The revelry, however, is an optional point in the official calendar of the country, with the exception of states and cities that have the date as a public holiday – state or municipal. This is the case of the state of Rio de Janeiro, for example.
