The deputy governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP), said this Tuesday (17) that there are indications that all the fires registered were caused by humans. According to her, the fire is under control, but there are still two outbreaks that require attention.
Last Monday (16), 144 fires were registered in the Federal District. Around 500 firefighters were called to fight the fire. A large fire hit the Brasília National Park late Sunday morning (15).
“We are aware that all of these fires are caused by human activity. Let’s now separate what was criminal and what was careless,” said the vice-governor.
Celina Leão stated that there are hypotheses about the origin of the fires. The Federal District Government believes that the outbreaks may have been caused by carelessness, criminal activity or by farmers.
“We have another situation of people living on the streets. People who make fires at night to keep warm and this has caused this type of situation,” he said.
The Federal Police (PF) is listing suspects who caused the fire in the Brasília National Forest. The names, however, are being kept confidential so as not to compromise the progress of the investigation.
