Car dragged by current during rain kills two children in Bahia

Two children died after the car they were in was dragged by the current of the Paraguaçu River, on Friday night (26), in Elísio Medrado, Bahia. According to the state Civil Defense, five people were in the vehicle.

The accident happened on the BR-242 highway, between the cities of Castro Alves and Santa Terezinha, both almost 200 km from Salvador.

In a statement, the City of Elísio Medrado regretted the accident and expressed condolences for the victims.

Santa Terezinha City Hall also issued a statement and lamented the death of the two children.

Pay attention to the rain

Bahia's Civil Protection and Defense Superintendence (Sudec) reported that they are monitoring the cities affected by the heavy rains of the last few hours and developing actions to minimize the impacts suffered by the population.

According to the agency, all technical support is being provided to the municipalities and humanitarian aid kits, containing basic food baskets, mineral water, hygiene and cleaning items, mattresses and blankets, are already in the separation phase to be distributed to the affected cities.

“In case of heavy rain and gusts of wind, do not take shelter under trees, as there is a risk of falling and electrical discharges, and do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs.
