«Long live the cinema!»: the 76th Cannes Film Festival ends with the joyful cry – strictly in Italian – of the godmother Chiara Mastroianni.
The awards ceremony highlighted the commitment to gender equality and not just because Justine Triet won the Palme d’Or with Anatomies of a chute. On stage she said: “This is the most intimate film I’ve ever written, I didn’t think I would receive any awards, but I would have moved on quickly. Instead I dedicate it to young directors and to those who can’t make a film. Let’s make room for them!” The French film is a thriller centered on the mysterious disappearance of a head of the family in a remote place in the mountains.
Justine Triet received the most coveted award from the hands of Jane Fonda who commented: “My first time in Cannes was in 1963. At the time there were no female directors and nobody thought it was wrong. Today there are seven in competition: it is historic but one day it will be normal».

The zone of interesta critically acclaimed movie set during the Holocaust, earned the Best Picture title: Director Jonathan Glazer loosely adapted Martin Amis’ novel of the same name. He recounts the horror of the concentration camp without ever showing it because the perspective is that of a German family living next to Auschwitz. The smoke, the train, the screams, the yelping of the dogs: every detail seems distant and faded, but the viewer experiences it on the skin like a well-aimed slap. Quentin Tarantino presented him with the award with his usual panache next to his idol Roger Corman saying: «I don’t understand the meaning of the definition“ guilty pleasure ”. For me, pleasure is pleasure.” The reference is to genre films that he loves to watch and make, as he recounted during the masterclass with the audience who, in order to find a seat in the theatre, queued for 9 hours sitting on the asphalt in front of the cinema.
