“FINA is aware of the distressing reports about Mary-Sophie Harvey and FINA is deeply concerned for her well-being,” the organization said in a statement to Reuters.

“In 2021, FINA has taken widespread measures aimed at protecting athletes and an independent investigative officer will be appointed to investigate the matter further.”

Harvey won a bronze medal in Budapest as part of Canada’s 4×200 meter relay team at the world championships, which ended on June 25.
