Businessman João Paulo Diniz dies at 58

Died this Sunday (31), the Brazilian businessman and sportsman João Paulo Diniz, at the age of 58. The information was confirmed by the businessman’s family. The cause of death has not yet been released.

“The Diniz family reports the death of João Paulo Diniz. The businessman leaves four children and a wife. The family asks that their grief be respected at this difficult time.”

Son of businessman Abílio Diniz, João Paulo was founder of the company Componente and advisor to Península Participações, an investment company owned by the Diniz family, and Instituto Península, a family social organization that focuses on improving the quality of Brazilian education.

He started his professional life as a trainee at the Pão de Açúcar group, while studying Business Administration at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, in São Paulo. After passing through all areas of the group, she worked for five years in the Budget Planning department.

A practitioner of several sports, João declared himself a “passionate sportsman”. He was involved in projects that promoted the professionalization of sports, being one of the creators of the Pact for Sports, an initiative that unites companies sponsoring national sports in the definition of governance for sponsorships to sports entities.

The businessman started practicing triathlon in 1986 and has participated in more than 20 marathons since the early 1990s. From then on, he started to engage in various sports initiatives.

In a post on social media last year, the businessman posted a video where he paid tribute to all cyclists.

“Today is World Bicycle Day, one of my great passions in the sport. In addition, it is a sustainable means of transport that helps our planet. To all cyclists, congratulations. We are passionate about two wheels with great pride!”, he wrote.

On July 27, 2001, João Paulo suffered a helicopter accident on Maresias beach, on the coast of São Paulo, which resulted in the death of his girlfriend at the time, model Fernanda Vogel, and the pilot of the aircraft. Co-pilot Luiz Eduardo and João Paulo Diniz survived the fall and swam more than two kilometers to the beach.
