Buses are kidnapped for the second consecutive day in Rio

For the second consecutive day, the routine of cariocas was affected by the escalation of the Violence in the city . On the morning of Friday (11), eight buses were kidnapped and used as barricades in the Quintino neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio.

Yesterday (10), six collectives were intercepted in Pavuna and one more in the yellow line. The roads were released next, but there were reflexes in other lines that operated on the routes.

This morning’s action also directly impacted 11 bus lines circulating through the region.

According to reports from residents, the collectives would have been used as a protest for the death of the 31-year-old application delivery man Luan Villela Pereira da Silva, on Thursday night (10) in Piedade.

The Military Police were called and managed to clear the roads, restoring traffic in the region. Patrol remains reinforced in the region.

In a statement, Rio Bus, an entity that represents the city’s public transport companies, stressed that 57 cases of kidnapping have already been recorded of collectives only between January and April this year. The number reflects a worrying intensification of attacks on public transport.

The Rio Bus spokesman, Paulo Valente, classified the situation as “unacceptable” and made a direct appeal to the public security authorities.

“This escalation of violence endangers passengers, roads and the entire population. It is necessary to guarantee the right to come and go from the population of Rio. Public transport cannot continue to be the target of criminals,” said the representative of the entity.

He also stressed that the routine of those who depend daily on the collectives has been constantly interrupted by criminal actions, which, in addition to causing damage to companies and public power, increase fear and insecurity among citizens.
