Bulgaria: Discussions on additional natural gas supplies from Azerbaijan

Outgoing Prime Minister Kirill Petkov discussed with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev the possibility of supplying Bulgaria with additional quantities of Azeri natural gas, beyond the planned quantities for the new connecting Greece-Bulgaria pipeline. This was announced today by the press center of the cabinet. The energy ministers of the two countries will discuss the details of possible new supplies, as was made clear during the talks between the Bulgarian prime minister and the president of Azerbaijan. Petkov and Aliyev had a bilateral meeting and working dinner on Thursday.

During his visit to Baku, Petkov had a meeting with Azerbaijani representatives of businessmen who maintain trade relations with Bulgarian companies and was informed about their current projects. It was also noted that the trade turnover between the two countries could increase, as there are new opportunities to export chemical fertilizers from the Caspian Sea region and import food and essential oils for cosmetics from Bulgaria.

The delegations of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani Chamber of Industry and Commerce thanked Prime Minister Petkov for his support in the appointment of the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in order to strengthen relations between companies in the two countries.

Today, Petkov wrote on his official Facebook account that he and President Aliyev discussed a number of joint economic opportunities in the fields of agriculture, chemical fertilizers, construction, defense and information technology.

“Bulgaria will soon open an honorary consulate in Azerbaijan. It is time for the long-standing friendship between our two countries to become a real bridge for strategic economic projects and more significant energy diversification,” Petkov wrote.

Petkov is making a two-day visit to Azerbaijan on July 21 and 22.
