Bulgari: the Cabochon exhibition in Rome, cut for success

Give yourself a dream by filling your eyes with beauty? Yes, at least until mid-May. Just cross the threshold of the famous boutique Bulgarians in via Condotti in Rome to immerse yourself in the glow. Inside, in fact, in the exhibition space Domus you can admire the show Cabochons free entrycurated by the Heritage Department of the maison, which celebrates the unmistakable cutting of gems, a Roman heritage and today a symbolic technique of the precious brand.

A cut, the cabochon whose name derives from French caboche (head), for the specific shape given by the stone: a flat base and a raised and rounded volume, in the shape of a dome, made the signature of Bulgari by Costantino and Giorgio, sons of the founder Sotirio.

Being literally enchanted by the jewels contained in the refined displays covered in silver leaf and silk which refer to the roots of the maison (Sotirio Bulgari was born as a silversmith), is immediate.

On show a wonderful selection of jewelery from the 1930s of the last century to the present day. A precious journey through the ages that includes unique pieces including a gold necklace cwith a rare composition of diamonds and colored stones, already in the collection of Princess Yasmin Aga Khan in 1991 and a sautoir in gold with rubies, emeralds and diamondswhich features a magnificent cut emerald in the center cabochon of over 300 carats (circa 1970).

To attract considerable attention a platinum and diamond ringset with an important sugarloaf-shaped sapphire from 1970 and a spectacular necklace characterized by an octagonal pendant with cut sapphire sugarloaf cabochon of approximately 52.72 carats, surrounded in turn by caliber sapphires and diamonds. The necklace, with links decorated with pavé diamonds and sapphires caliberboth belonging to Elizabeth Taylor.

The necklace specifically it was given to the diva by Richard Burton on the occasion of his 40th birthday.

The actress then wore the precious jewel several other times: she wore it around her neck, for example, at Richard Burton's 50th birthday party in 1975 and also showed it off on some evenings at Studio 54.
