The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele announced this Sunday (24) the installation of a siege of 5 thousand soldiers and police in 4 districts in the north of the country to dismantle the actions of criminal gangs.
“A few days ago, two homicides occurred in the north of our country. We have already captured the two culprits, members of the 18 Sureños gang”, highlighted the president on his social networks.
The security siege will include the neighborhoods of San José Cancasque, San Antonio Los Ranchos, Potonico and San Isidro Labrador.

Bukele said he could solve the crisis in Haiti
Bukele recently assured that his government could resolve the violence crisis in Haiti.
However, he pointed out that it would be necessary “a resolution from the UN Security Council, the consent of the host country and cover all mission expenses”.
The president said this in response to a user on X, the former Twitter, indicating that “Haiti has collapsed.”
Shortly after, Bukele reacted to another post about the country's most notorious gang leader, Jimmy Cherizier, nicknamed “Barbecue” and stated: “We saw similar images in El Salvador a few years ago. Gangs 'bathing' with their victims' skulls.”
The president of El Salvador, who calls himself “the coolest dictator in the world,” is recognized for his war against gangs in his country.
Still in the post, he reiterated that, although all experts said that criminal groups could not be defeated, because “they were an intrinsic part” of society, it was demonstrated that “they were wrong and we destroyed them”.
Then, he added that “the same should be done in Haiti”.
The state of emergency promoted by Bukele for just under two years was criticized by several international analysts and observers, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, who denounced alleged systematic violations of human rights.
After his re-election, Bukele acknowledged that the El Salvador Police may have made mistakes in implementing his government's security policy, but defended the security measures he implemented.
A meeting of the Caribbean Community and the Common Market (Caricom) on Haiti takes place this Monday (11) in Kingston, Jamaica.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is present, as is Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena, but it is unclear whether Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry attended the meeting.
In 2023, El Salvador had already made itself available to Haiti to help reduce crime rates.
