One policeman was killed and another was injured attacked with a knife at Brusselsin the Belgium. The attacker was shot by other police officers and taken to the hospital.
The attack, according to Belgian media based on judicial imgs, is allegedly related to terrorism.
“One of our patrols was attacked by a man armed with a knife. The two police officers called for backup. An officer from another patrol used his firearm to neutralize the assailant.”according to a statement from the Belgian police.
“The two injured detectives and the assailant were taken to the hospital”is added.
Judicial imgs also told the Associated Press agency that “there is a suspicion of a terrorist attack”, without giving further details at this time.
According to Belgian media, the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) before attacking the policemen.
Le Soir newspaper reported that the dead policeman was stabbed in the neck and died in hospital.
The Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander de Croix, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the dead policeman in a post on Twitter.
“Our police officers put their lives at risk every day for the safety of our citizens. Today’s tragedy proves it once again”points out.
