The model Bruno Krupp admitted that he was driving at more than 100 km/h – above the 60 km/h required by law – at the place where he hit a motorcycle and killed 16-year-old João Gabriel, in July this year, in Barra of Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro.
In an instruction hearing held this Thursday (11), on the advice of his defense, Krupp refused to answer questions from the Public Ministry and the judgment of the 4th Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro. The model has been in jail since August.
During his testimony, Bruno Krupp admitted that he rode his motorcycle at more than 100 km/h, “but he respected the signs”.
“He stated that, when he saw the pedestrians ahead, he calculated that there would be time and space to pass without hitting them, trying to throw the motorcycle to the right, but that he hit João as soon as he moved to try to avoid the impact”, informed the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ), in a statement.
The model said that he only learned of João’s death days later, and, at the end of the statement, he apologized to his mother and family and João Gabriel.
At the same hearing, João Gabriel’s mother, Marina Lima, who is an assistant to the prosecution in the process, gave her testimony.
She reported that she was with her son and a group leaving a party, when they went for a walk on the beach.
“As he crossed, he noticed that cars were stopped in the distance and then he saw a figure pass and drag his son. She went to him to help him and started screaming for help. Marina stated that João was lucid, that he even talked and prayed with him, that he complained of leg pain, but that he had not yet noticed that his leg had been amputated immediately with the force of the impact. .
In addition to the mother, there are three other witnesses for the prosecution: a driver, who saw Bruno Krupp’s motorcycle speeding past the light at which he was stopping and witnessed the accident; the waiter at a nearby kiosk who tried to help João; and the policeman who attended the incident, who said that Bruno’s motorcycle had no license plate and he didn’t have a license.
“For the defense, two friends of Bruno and a friend of his father testified, as informants, who said that he used to attend motorcycle clubs since he was little and had experience riding motorcycles, a passion he had since childhood. Ricardo Molina, technical assistant hired by the defense, also gave a statement and analyzed the causes of the trampling”, concludes the TJ-RJ.
