Britney Spears explains why she completely shaved her head in 2007

The year was 2007. Britney Spearsa 26-year-old world-famous pop star at the time, was starting to suffer from severe psychological distress. The divorce with ex Kevin Federline had been dissected by the media and Britney Spears was constantly judged for her looks, for her way of raising her children, for her every move.

At a certain point, the singer decided that she had enough of pleasing everyone: he wanted to create a shock and so he decided to shave himselfsaying goodbye to her reassuring, long blonde hair of an all-smiles American girl.

The reasons for that gesture were reported by the magazine Peoplewhich got early access to Britney Spears’ highly anticipated memoir, The Woman In Me, out October 24. The excerpt reads: “I was stared at so much growing up. I was looked down uponpeople have always told me what they thought of my physical appearance, ever since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and rebelling were my ways of reacting to this situation».

After being released from a rehab facility in Antigua, Britney Spears went to a hair salon in Tarzana, a suburb of Los Angeles, and had asked to be completely shaved. From that moment a descent into hell began. A year later, in 2008, the singer was placed under court-ordered conservatorshipwho gave her father Jamie Spears and a lawyer total control of her financial and personal affairs.

In her memoir Britney also revealed that under her father’s tutelage she was forbidden to keep her short cut. “They told me I needed to grow my hair, get into shape as soon as possible and take all the prescribed medicines.”
