British tourist dies after falling from a famous monument in Spain

A British tourist died after falling from an observation platform on a famous Roman aqueduct in the city of Segovia, Spain.

Emergency services were called after the 63 -year -old man was falling around 1 pm on Saturday (13), according to a statement from the Regional Government of Castile and Leão.

The visitor’s resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and he was declared dead at the scene, according to the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British community and the development of the United Kingdom confirmed the death of the British CNN in a statement on Monday (14).

“We are supporting the family of a British citizen who died in Spain and we are in contact with local authorities,” said a spokesman.

THE CNN contacted Segóvia City Hall for comments.

The city is located about 64 kilometers northwest of the Spanish capital, Madrid, in the center of the country.

It is a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors interested in knowing the Roman Aqueduct, built by Emperor Trajan, who ruled from 98 to 117.

Still in use today, the aqueduct transports water from the frio river to the city of Segovia.

The central section has two layers of arches that rise to 28.5 meters from the ground.
