Britain: Who will succeed Boris Johnson – The favorites and the outsiders

Time is counting down Britain after his resignation Boris Johnsonwith the members of the Conservatives having to choose the country’s next prime minister on September 5, while the first polls have already leaked.

Yes, the nominations are “locked” and there are eightwhile according to the Athens News Agency, on Wednesday (13/7) from 15:30 (Greece time) until 17:30, the 358 members of the Conservative parliamentary group will vote for the first time for the candidate they prefer.

Nonetheless, whoever fails to collect 30 votes or whoever come last automatically leaves the succession race.

Same process will be repeated on Thursday at noon. If necessary, internal party elections will be held next week among the parliamentary group so that until July 21 there are only two candidates left. For them the roughly 200,000 members of the party will decide. The winner will be announced on September 5 when parliament reopens after the summer break.

Also, a poll conducted by the reputable Conservative House website among 842 Conservative party members it shows:

  • 1st is Penny Mordant, former Minister of Defense and current Under Secretary for Trade Policy, with 19.6%
  • 2nd is Kemi Beidenock, Deputy Minister for Local Government, Faith and Communities with 18.7%
  • Rishi Sunak, former Minister of Finance, 3rd with 12.1%
  • 4th is Suella Braverman, Attorney General, with 11.1%
  • 5th is Liz Truss, Secretary of State, with 10.9%
  • 6th Tom Tugdenhead, head of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, with 7.2%
  • 7th Jeremy Hunt, former Secretary of State, with 4%
  • 8th Nazim Zahawi Minister of Finance, with 3.8%
