Russia’s priority over the past week has likely been to reallocate units to bolster its campaign in southern Ukraine, Britain’s military intelligence agency said today.
Ukraine and Russia have traded accusations over multiple shelling incidents at the Zaporizhia facility in southern Ukraine. Russian troops occupied the station early in the war.
The Russian-backed forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in Donbas continued to launch attacks in the north of the city of Donetsk, according to the intelligence briefing.
Particularly heavy fighting was concentrated in the village of Pisky, near the site of the Donetsk airport, the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing on Twitter.
Ukraine’s military command said on Saturday that “heavy fighting” was continuing in Pisky, an eastern village that Russia had earlier said was in full control.
The UK also said the Russian offensive was “likely” aimed at securing the “M04 motorway”, the main approach to Donetsk from the west.
