The British Ministry of Defense said on Monday that the information shows that Russia seeks to limit Ukraine’s access to independent news, according to CNN.
“Russia is likely to target Ukraine’s communications infrastructure in order to reduce the access of Ukrainian citizens to reliable news and information,” the ministry said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“Russia allegedly struck a TV station in Kharkov yesterday, freezing broadcasting, following a similar attack on a TV station in Kyiv on March 1,” the ministry said.
“Ukrainian internet access is also very likely to be disrupted as a result of collateral damage from Russian infrastructure. Last week, internet outages were reported in Mariupol, Sumy, Kyiv and Kharkiv.”
Last week, Russia passed a law criminalizing the publication of news that is considered false by the authorities, further censoring the Russian press and restricting dissenting voices.
