Conservative politician Tom Tugenhat has announced he will run for the party leadership and the British Prime Ministershipaccording to The Telegraph newspaper.
Tugenhut, who is an army veteran, currently heads the British Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. Last year, he sharply criticized the withdrawal of British forces from Afghanistan.
“I have served in the past – in the army and now in Parliament. Now I hope to answer the call once again, as prime minister” he says in an opinion piece published in the newspaper.
Tugenhat adds that he will form a “alliance of colleagues” aiming to bring “new energy and ideas to the government and bridge the Brexit divide that has dominated its recent history United Kingdom».
