Brendan Fraser does not rule out the possibility of returning to his Rick O’Connell character in ‘The Mummy’

After a long absence from the cinema due to severe blows of fate, fortunately for the fans by Brendan Fraser, the American actor’s career is experiencing one of the best revivals in Hollywood history.

Fraser achieved worldwide fame for his performance in the tapes The Mummy, George of the Jungle Y To the devil with the devil, among others, but he retired from the film industry after being sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, then president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and suffering from some physical and mental health problems.

After nine years of his last leading role in Breakout (2013), The Whale, by Darren Aronofsky, is the film that marks the return of the legendary star who caused a sensation at the end of the nineties after battling depression caused by being a victim of sexual assault and suffering from various health problems in the spine, knees and vocal cords .

Of course, his return aroused the hopes of the fans for the 53-year-old actor to reprise the role that catapulted him to fame, that of Rick O’Connell in the hit trilogy of The Mummy (1999), the most iconic and important of his career.

However, although many years have passed since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), in a recent interview with the magazine VarietyBrendan Fraser confessed that he is open to reprising his role in a fourth film in the franchise.

I don’t know how it would work. But I’d be open to it if someone had the right idea.

Clearly, it’s not enough that Fraser wants to star in a fourth film in the franchise, because after the fiasco of the reboot from Universal in 2017, which had Tom Cruise in the title role, Hollywood filmmakers may have some reservations about The Mummy. In fact, the actor also shared his thoughts on the Tom Cruise movie:

It’s hard to make that movie. The ingredient that we had in our favor in ‘The Mummy’, which I didn’t see in that movie, was fun. That was what was missing in that performance. It was too much of a pure horror movie. ‘The mummy’ should be suspenseful, but not horrifying or scary.

That said, only time will tell if we’ll get to see Fraser as O’Connell one more time. Meanwhile, the actor is stirring up quite a stir at next year’s Oscars with his role in The Whale. The film follows Charlie (Brendan Fraser), an isolated writing instructor who struggles to reconnect with his daughter, Ellie, played by the star of stranger thingsSadie Sink.

Last September, the film debuted at the Venice International Film Festival, where the actor broke down in tears after receiving a six-minute standing ovation for his performance. At the moment, a launch date has not been made official in Mexico or the rest of Latin America, but news is expected soon.

In addition, Brendan Fraser has other projects in the pipeline. After The Whalewe will see it in the new Martin Scorsese movie, Killers of the Flower Moonand in brothers, the new work by Max Barbakow, where he shares the screen with Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage and Glenn Close. So mummies or no mummies, we’ll have plenty of Brendan Fraser for quite some time. And it’s wonderful!
