A Brazilian woman who has lived in Europe for seven years was a victim of xenophobia at the airport in the city of Porto, Portugal, on Monday (6). The woman, who currently resides in Barcelona, Spain, suffered racist abuse.
The Brazilian was walking down the airport stairs when her foot was hit by a nearby passenger’s suitcase. When expressing pain, the Portuguese woman began to swear, saying that the Brazilian woman was not welcome in Portugal. The Brazilian immediately began recording the insults.
A CNN had access to the video in which the Portuguese woman mocks the fact that she is being filmed and continues with the insults. “You can film whatever you want. You can put it on the internet. Look at my little face. You pig. Go to your country, you pig. I am Portuguese by race. You, who are Brazilian, go to your homeland.”
The video images show that the Portuguese woman, in the midst of the attacks, is restrained by her friend, who stands in front of her trying to keep her away from the Brazilian. When she finally decides to leave, the Portuguese woman still says that Brazilians are invading Portugal and makes a new racist speech. “Go to your land, you pig. I am Portuguese by race. You, who are Brazilian, go to your homeland. Race of ***”.
The Brazilian stated that she will sue the Portuguese woman for xenophobia. The victim, who preferred not to identify himself, said he had never experienced anything like this. She said that it is necessary to take the case to court so that episodes like this do not happen again, not just to her, but to all Brazilians who live in Portugal.
