A Brazilian who has been missing in Switzerland since the 8th of this month, Márcio Rodrigues da Silva had already been confused by airport authorities with a man wanted by the police who would have the same name and surname as the businessman.
According to his wife, Ana Lúcia Cera, the confusion was only resolved after checking other information, such as his passport and mother’s name.

Ana Lúcia revealed to CNN that this was the first time that Márcio traveled to Switzerland on business. The couple would have gone on a trip once in the past after spending a few days in France.
Márcio is a businessman, specialized in providing motivational and sales training. According to Ana, he is a “very sweet” person, very happy and has two teenage children.
On social media, Márcio shows various leadership trainings, including abroad. Ana says that the businessman has already taught in Paraguay, Portugal and Spain.
According to Ana, Márcio has the same name and surname as a man wanted by the police. She says that he had problems on some international trips he took, such as when the couple traveled to Portugal and Spain, and that he was taken to private rooms for inspection.
The release only occurred, according to Ana, after the authorities checked her passport and found that the name of Márcio’s mother was different from that of the wanted man’s mother.
Report of disappearance
In the report, Ana Lúcia said that her husband’s trip was motivated by business he would do in Switzerland. However, she said she did not know details of the investment, as he had only said that he would travel to Switzerland “to sign an investment document”.
She says that Márcio left Brazil heading to Zurich, with a stopover in Barcelona. The man arrived in Switzerland on November 8, around 8 am – Brasília time, and reported to his wife that his two suitcases had been lost.
In Zurich, Márcio would meet with two men who would give him advice and help him with the translation, as they spoke Spanish, a language that Márcio also knows.
Ana says that Márcio had booked a hotel, but that he never checked in because the two men told him to stay in another accommodation, closer to their office.
However, according to Ana Lúcia, her husband reported that the men took Márcio’s passport and that he was desperate, thinking he had fallen into a trap.
In the last conversation they had, at 1:34 pm that day, Márcio told Ana Lúcia that he would take a taxi to try to get his passport back, but he said, in tears, that he didn’t know if he would return and asked his wife to pray for him.
Márcio’s phone was turned off shortly afterwards and Ana had no more calls or messages returned, which didn’t even reach her husband’s cell phone.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Brazil in Zurich, stated that it is following the case and is in contact with local authorities with a view to investigating the circumstances of what happened.
The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) reported that the Homicide and Personal Protection Sector (SHPP) interviewed the victim’s wife and that, after carrying out the appropriate steps, it forwarded the case to the Federal Police, which is investigating the incident. disappearance with support from Interpol.
Anguish and requests for help
After her last contact with Márcio, Ana says she asked for help from the Federal Police, the Civil Police and the Missing Persons Police Station. She also reported having sought out the Swiss consulate in Brazil, the Brazilian Consulate in Switzerland, Itamaraty and Interpol.
She also said that her brother-in-law hired a Swiss lawyer and that the authorities discovered that the men who met with Márcio used false names.
Ana says that she, her children and family are “devastated”. According to her, since her husband disappeared, she has been unable to eat or sleep properly.
“The lack of news makes me anxious all day,” she says. “Needing to take medication to cope with this anguish.”
