A survey carried out by an American magazine placed a hotel in Minas Gerais on the list of the 50 best luxury accommodation spaces. The Ibiti, around the Ibitipoca State Park, is the first Brazilian hotel to appear on the list and has daily rates of more than R$2,200.
The list is compiled annually by Robb Report based on the reports of 21 handpicked people called Travel Masters. To be on the list, all hotels must necessarily have five stars.
Ibiti, which is located in the Conceição do Ibitipoca district, in the city of Lima Duarte (294 km from Belo Horizonte), is not positioned in any specific number, it is just listed.
The undertaking began in 1984, after the purchase of the former Fazenda do Engenho. The space, which has more than 6,500 square meters, is in the process of recovering native fauna and flora – and this was one of the highlights pointed out by the magazine’s judges.
There are several “modalities” of hosting. Engenho Lodge, in a 1700s-style mansion, won the votes of the judges.
The space offers luxury and an air of modernity within a historic location. The eight colonial-style suites share space with whirlpool tubs – something unthinkable hundreds of years ago. The magazine writes that the “safari-style” charm offered by the state park view is “enchanting”.
Rivers, lagoons and waterfalls with a rusty water make up the landscape surrounding the hotel. On the banks, the “little beaches” of Minas Gerais are made up of quartzite carpets – also found in Capitólio.
According to information from the hotel, the place is also one of the pioneers of sustainable tourism – the fauna and flora recovery project is just one pillar.
For the local community, a school and space for art and events were built. Many who work on the premises of the establishment live nearby. Also due to the environmental impact that a pasture causes, the restaurant does not serve beef, as another example of the sustainability preached by the establishment.
