Brazilian cardinals start boarding for Rome to Conclave

Part of the Brazilian cardinals who will participate in the farewell ceremonies of Pope Francis and the Conclave already embark on planes for Rome on Tuesday (22), according to the investigation of CNN. In all, seven Brazilian cardinals are entitled to vote in the conclave.

Sources of the Catholic Church said to CNN that the cardinal Jaime Spengler, Archbishop of Porto Alegre and president of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), embarked to Rome around 12 noon and is already in transit.

The Vatican has not yet officially reported the calendar of honors and the conclave, but the Brazilian cardinals are organized to arrive in time of the Mass of Fine, which should be held over the weekend, marking the end of the funeral.

Next week, the Vatican should hold the General Congregation, a meeting in which the cardinals discuss the direction the church should take.

The canonical norm states that the conclave needs to start up to 20 days after the Pope’s wake.
