Brazil intends to open a negotiation channel with China and Russia for a new emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
Brazilian diplomats told CNN that the idea is to try to reach a consensus on a position of repudiation of Hamas in order to convene a new meeting.
Sunday’s meeting disappointed the Itamaraty Palace’s expectations.
The meeting lasted just two hours and China and Russia did not agree on a repudiation document.

The two countries are allies of Iran, one of Hamas’ financiers.
Brazil wants to call a new meeting until next Friday (13) to fine-tune its position.
An alternative would be a document with more general criticism of terrorist attacks, without an emphatic defense of Israel.
The assessment of Brazilian diplomats is that the war against Ukraine increased resistance towards the Russian government on a note of repudiation, as Russia itself was the target of critical positions.
Yesterday, Sérgio Danese, Brazil’s representative at the UN, acknowledged that this is a long-lasting conflict.
