Brazil records drop in moving average of Covid cases for the 5th consecutive day

Brazil recorded, in the last 24 hours, 58,540 cases of Covid-19 and 473 deaths from the disease. The numbers were released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) this Monday (14).

As a result, the moving average of cases fell for the fifth day in a row, reaching 134,130 – a decrease of 0.84% ​​compared to the 135,279 that were registered last Sunday (13).

The moving average of deaths, which had been falling in the last two days, rose from 881 to 888 this Monday – an increase of 0.79%.

The moving averages consider the averages of the numbers recorded in the last seven days and serve to correct eventual deviations, such as underreporting on weekends.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Brazil has accumulated 27,538,503 cases and 638,835 deaths from Covid-19.

Notaries register January with the highest number of deaths since 2003

Based on all causes of death, Brazil had the deadliest January in the historical series, which began in 2003, according to data from the Civil Registry Transparency Portal, managed by the National Association of Registrars of Natural Persons (Arpen).

In January 2022, 144,341 deaths were recorded in the country, an increase of 5% compared to the first month of last year, which had already shown a growth of 22% compared to the same period in 2020. Read more.

Third dose of Coronavac raises antibodies

The Butantan Institute released this Monday (14) new results from the S Project, which carried out mass vaccination of the population of Serrana, in the interior of São Paulo, with Coronavac.

The follow-up of immunized individuals showed that six months after the administration of the second dose of Coronavac, the rates of specific antibodies against the new coronavirus in all age groups remained above 99%. In addition, administration of a booster dose of the same vaccine to the elderly increased antibody levels two to fourfold. Read more.

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, told CNN that the federal government will recommend a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine for the general population “when there is scientific evidence to support it”.

Last week, João Gabbardo, executive coordinator of the Scientific Committee of São Paulo, stated in an interview with CNN that the population of the state over 60 years will receive the fourth dose as of April 4th. Read more.
