Brazil occupies 6th place in the ranking of business optimism, according to a study

A study by the consulting firm Grant Thornton carried out in 28 countries placed Brazil in sixth place in a ranking of business optimism in relation to the country’s economy.

Over 4,700 businesspeople were consulted over the past year on different aspects of the business environment in the countries in which they operate.

Ahead of Brazil (62%), the highest positive expectations of businessmen were registered in Indonesia (76%), Vietnam (75%) and the United Arab Emirates (74%). The index was 60% in Latin America and 59% in the global average.

As the data were collected until December 2022, they do not include the perception of Brazilian businessmen regarding the January 8 coup attacks in Brasília.

According to the CEO of Grant Thornton, Daniel Maranhão, confidence was actually shaken in the face of political uncertainties and possible economic impacts of the invasion of the seats of power. He considers, however, that the quick response from the authorities was positive.

“The measures that have been and are being taken by the various government agencies have brought greater peace of mind to the market and the perception of stability for the economy, both for local businessmen and for international investors”, punctuated Maranhão.

The chief strategist at RB Investimentos, Gustavo Cruz, assesses that the international scenario is more favorable for the country’s production chain.

“We had times when China and other countries were not sending inputs naturally, with the Chinese closing ports and making freight more expensive. The entrepreneur who often depends on an item produced outside Brazil was in a very difficult situation. Now, he can already see that 2023 will be a quieter year”.

Cruz also points out that demand is more predictable. “In 2020 and 2021, people consumed much more in retail than in services, as they did not leave their homes. Last year it was more alternating, with an increase in services. Now things should go back to normal.”

In addition to optimism in relation to the economy, 81% of Brazilian businessmen were confident in the growth of revenues and in the volume of business, which puts us in third place in this regard, behind Indonesia and Nigeria (84%) and Vietnam (82% ).

Latin America appears with 73% and the global index was at 56%. The profitability item presented similar numbers. Brazil ranked fourth with 81% of Brazilian entrepreneurs confident of increased profits.

Leading the survey are Indonesia and Nigeria (84%), as well as Vietnam (82%). Latin America, at 73%, ranked above the global index of 56%.

If we analyze the number of jobs, Brazilians are the ones with the highest growth expectations for the next 12 months. With a rate of 75%, Brazil shares the lead with India, followed by Nigeria (74%) and the Philippines (67%).

Latin America registered 62%, while the global average was 48%. Brazil (77%) is also in first place when it comes to expectations for investments in team skills, ahead of India (75%) and Nigeria (74%). The index for Latin America was 61% and the global average was 53%.
