Brazil’s leftist former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva maintains a strong lead over far-right outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro ahead of October’s presidential election, according to a Genial/Quaest poll released today.
Lula has 45% in the first round of the election, 14 points more than Bolsonaro. The latter gained one point compared to the June poll, which had him at 30%. In the second round between them, Lula is estimated to win by a margin of 19 percentage points (53% versus 34%).
47% of Brazilians have a negative opinion of Bolsonaro’s government. The percentage of those who have a positive opinion increased by one point, to 26%. For 44% of respondents, the economic situation remains the most important problem facing the country.
Pollster/Quaest interviewed 2,000 voters between June 29-July 2. The margin of statistical error amounts to 2 units.
