Brazil has epidemiological week with more Covid cases since February

Brazil had the week with the most Covid-19 contamination since February, according to data released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass). In the period between June 19 and 25, 25th week, the panel recorded 368,457 infections by the disease nationwide.

At the end of February, when the Ômicron variant had installed itself and was responsible for an increase in cases, the week between the 20th and 26th recorded 576,463 contaminations.

Compared to the last count made by the panel, the week before (between June 12 and 18), the percentage of cases increased by 48%. At the time, Conass recorded 248,365 new infections with the coronavirus.

The 25th epidemiological week also showed an increase in the number of deaths. During the period, Brasilr had 1,359 fatal victims of Covid.

For comparison purposes, in the previous week, between June 12 and 18, the country had 936 deaths from the disease.

Conass also updated the data for the day. In the last 24 hours, states reported 51,678 new SARS-CoV-2 infections. In addition, this Monday (27) there were 127 deaths from Covid.

With that, the moving average of deaths, which considers the last seven days, was 196 – above 190 for the third consecutive day.

The moving average of cases, which is also on the rise, was 53,693. This number represents a 136% increase in one month. On May 27, the indicator marked 22,676.

These numbers allow monitoring of the country’s epidemiological situation without possible distortions caused by possible underreporting on weekends or problems in accessing databases.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, Brazil has registered 32,130,316 cases of Covid and had 670,532 victims of the disease.
