Starting this Monday (2), Brazil faces the biggest heat wave of the year, with temperatures expected to be significantly above average in much of the national territory.
According to the forecast, the central areas of the country will be the most affected. In these regions, temperatures could exceed the historical average for this time of year by up to 5°.
High temperatures in the capitals
Brazilian capitals are already feeling the effects of the intense heat. In Cuiabá, the maximum temperature is expected to be 39°C, while Goiânia is expected to record up to 36°C.
Belo Horizonte is not far behind, with a forecast of 33°C. In Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, temperatures are expected to reach 29°C.
In the capital of São Paulo, despite initial cloudiness, the sky is expected to remain clear throughout the day, providing intense sunshine and heat.
The forecast calls for two days of rain during the week, but hot, dry weather is expected to return shortly thereafter.
Climatic contrasts in the country
While the center of the country faces extreme heat, the South region experiences milder temperatures.
Florianópolis will have a maximum temperature of just 21°C, with sun between clouds. In Porto Alegre, the maximum temperature should not exceed 18°C, with rain forecast.
In the North and Northeast, some areas are also expected to experience rain. The northeastern coast may experience more intense showers, especially in Pernambuco and Bahia.
Low humidity alert
Meteorological authorities have issued a low humidity alert for several regions, including the Central-West, Tocantins, the interior of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
In Goiânia and Brasília, humidity levels can drop below 10%, making September particularly dry in these locations.
In Brasília, the temperature range promises to be significant, with maximums of 32°C during the day and minimums of 16°C at night.
The lack of clouds contributes to this sharp variation in temperature throughout the day.
