The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said this Friday (26) that Brazil has contracted growth for the coming years. Despite the optimism, the minister scolded previous governments in the case of economic management.
“Brazil is doomed to grow, Brazil will grow anyway. Now, if it’s a very bad president, people we already know, it grows one year, grows two, and then it starts to unbalance everything again and sinks again. Because he knows how to sink things.”, said Paulo Guedes at an event promoted by the Middle Class Association (Aclame), in Rio Grande do Sul.
In the lecture, the minister praised the country’s economic growth and economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. Guedes also commented on the possible consequences of tax reduction policies promoted this year by the federal government.
“Now the rollover is for next year, next year there will be a catastrophe, there will be a tax bomb. How tax bomb? The people who faced two wars paid for the entire war, what bomb is this?”, questioned the minister.
Aid of BRL 600
Paulo Guedes stated that it is possible to maintain the Brazil aid at R$ 600 permanently if the tax reform that is in the Senate is approved. However, the minister stated that he will only work for the approval of the measure if they win the election.
“Is it possible to keep the aid at 600? Of course it is, we did in the tax reform that anyone who took more than R$ 400 thousand a month in dividends, paid 15% on top of the excess. It is with this money that you pay R$ 600 in assistance. It was approved in the Chamber, if we win the election, we will approve it in the Senate the next day,” said Guedes.
IPI, Industry and China
The minister also said that he does not want the “Chinese” entering the Brazilian economy. “We don’t want the Chinese people coming in here and breaking our factories, our industries at all. What we want is something moderate. That’s it, I lowered the IPI, we lowered the IPI by 35%. Let’s do away with IPI. The IPI is a mass deindustrialization tax.”, said the minister.
