President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) commented this Wednesday (11) on the suspension of parts of the decrees that reduce the rates of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) on goods from all over the country by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.
The suspension of the cut, determined by Moraes, took place last Friday (6). Today, Bolsonaro quoted the Supreme Minister when responding to supporters about the country’s current economic situation.
“When I lowered the IPI, it doesn’t mean that at the end of the line the price of things went down, but it didn’t go up. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court overturned, the Supreme Court did not, Alexandre de Moraes overturned part of the IPI.”
wanted by CNN the STF adviser said that Moraes will not comment.
Alongside supporters, the president also addressed the inflation scenario faced by Brazil. “The most important thing is the cost of living worldwide. It’s food, fuel, rent, everything has gone up in price. Brazil was the country that least increased the price of things. When I cut the IPI, a lot of things would go up, vehicles, motorcycles, white goods”.
Published this Wednesday, the IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index), which measures the country’s official inflation, slowed to 1.06% in April compared to the previous month, informed the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This was the highest result for the month of April since 1996 (1.26%). In March, the index had stood at 1.62%.
