The biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” topped the global box office on its opening weekend.
The film raised around US$80 million (approximately R$396 million) in just the first few days of screening, between February 14th and 18th.
In the United States alone, the biopic of the world's best-known reggae singer grossed US$27.7 million (R$137 million) and was the most watched film in the country's cinemas over the weekend.
In Brazil, the film was the second most watched film over the weekend, grossing R$8.67 million, including data relating to the preview.
More than 390,270 people have gone to movie theaters around the world to watch “Bob Marley: One Love” since the film’s first screenings on February 12.
The film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (“King Richard: Creating Champions”) and starring Kinglsey Ben-Adir (“Secret Invasion” and “High Fidelity”), is the first to bring the singer’s story to the silver screen. .
The film shows the trajectory of Bob Marley at the beginning of his career and in the fight for peace during political conflicts and civil war in Jamaica.
The biopic begins in Kingston in 1976, with Marley planning a peace concert in response to deep political divisions and violence. The musician moves to London after he and his wife Rita survive an assassination attempt and records the successful album “Exodus”.
