The US will demand that Putin accept Ukraine’s right to have its own army and defense industry as part of a peaceful deal between Moscow and Kiev, writes Bloomberg. The American envoy, Steve Whitkov, will travel to Russia to raise the matter to President Vladimir Putin, according to people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private negotiations. This requirement would, according to Bloomberg, disputed one of the Kremlin’s war targets – the demilitarization of Ukraine – and is part of a broader effort to secure guarantees for Kiev. According to the report, the US is also alleged to want Russia to return the Zaporizia nuclear station to Ukrainian control.
