The Palestinian Authority is working with US officials on a plan to administration of Gaza after the end of the war, Bloomberg News reported, citing Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Stageh.
The preferred outcome of the conflict would be for the militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza, to become a minority partner under the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), helping to build a new independent state that includes the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, Stageh said in an interview yesterday, Thursday, with Bloomberg News.
“If they (Hamas) are ready to come to an agreement and accept the political platform of the PLO, then there is room for discussion. Palestinians must not be divided”Stageh said, adding that Israel’s goal of completely defeating Hamas is unrealistic.
Israel has said it will eliminate Iran-backed Hamas after Islamist militants attacked Israeli towns and villages on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages back in Gaza, according to an Israeli count.
More than 17,170 Palestinians have been killed and 46,000 wounded since Israel began shelling Gaza in response to the attack, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
