The Galo da Madrugada block has existed for 46 years and is going to its 44th parade this Saturday (10). It is considered the largest Carnival group in the world, registered in the Book of Records (Guinness World Records) since 1994.
The traditional giant statue of a colorful rooster (main symbol of the Galo da Madrugada block) was erected last Wednesday (7) on the Duarte Coelho Bridge, in the center of Recife, in Pernambuco.
The process to raise the statue was accompanied by a show by Maestro Forró's frevo orchestra, installed on a ferry on the Capibaribe River. The event started in the early evening.
The Tribo de Caboclinhos Tupi, Getúlio Cavalcanti and Bloco das Ilusões also performed, as well as the Harmonia and Passistas orchestra from Cia. Trapiá de Dança and the Municipal School of Frevo.
This year, the giant rooster was created by artist Leopoldo Nóbrega and is 27 meters tall and weighs almost nine tons.
The statue pays homage to the brega singer Reginaldo Rossi, with a gray crest. The theme of Galo da Madrugada 2024 is “Reginaldo Rossi no Reinado do Frevo”.
Furthermore, she calls for peace at Carnival in Recife and around the world, with the word “peace” written on the tail feathers in 16 languages.
The statue was also made in five different colors to represent the five continents: yellow (Asia), black (Africa), red, (America), blue (Europe) and green (Oceania).
In 2024, organizers hope to repeat last year's attendance mark, with 2.5 million revelers following the 30 electric trios, with dozens of artists, and the six floats for 6.5 kilometers.
