US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke today with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, stressing that “nothing justifies the escalation of border tensions” with Armenia, according to the State Department. During the phone conversation, Blinken stressed that “nothing justifies an increase in border tensions and warned of the danger of aggressive actions and aggressive rhetoric from one side or the other undermining the prospects for peace,” according to a statement from State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. The head of American diplomacy is in Brussels for the NATO meeting. He is also expected to participate in a tripartite meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Union leadership on Friday.
