A blind young man exposed on his social networks that he was taken out of a gym for staring at a woman and although he explained to the offended woman that he was blind, the girl simply did not believe him.
This is Toby Addison, who posted a video on his TikTok account @blindtobes where he shared this story. Although he acknowledged that the girl acted like this because of the bullying that she has probably suffered, he mentioned that it is very sad that there is not a good awareness about disabilities.
According to New York Post, Toby, 21, is a Psychology and Counseling student, as well as a content creator who likes to share different activities he does every day to show the reality he faces as a blind person. In a recent video, he recounted that during one of his training sessions at the gym, a woman approached him to ask if he liked to watch.
I really don’t know where I’m looking most of the time. She was looking straight ahead and unfortunately there was a woman doing some exercises.
Surprised, Toby, who lives in Chichester, England, did not quite understand what was happening, but when he reacted, he told the woman that he was blind, although she did not want to believe him and went to talk to the manager to get him out of the place.
I didn’t know he was talking to me at first because I wasn’t doing anything wrong. She was like, ‘Why do you keep looking at me? Stop, don’t be so creepy.’ It is very sad that some women feel uncomfortable or anxious when they are in the gym due to a small percentage of people who have acted inappropriately. It is also very sad that disability awareness is not good enough right now.
Finally, the young man told that he had gone to that gym invited by a friend, but he confessed that fortunately he has a good relationship with the staff of his gym current, who already know it.
