Blackout in Portugal and Spain: Energy begins to return after hours of chaos

The supply of electricity was reestablished in parts of Spain and Portugal, the network operators of both countries reported after hours of chaos throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

The National Electric René (REN), a Portuguese energy supplier, reported that the production was restored at the Bode Castle Hydroelectric Plant and the Tapada de Outeiro thermoelectric plant.

With these now active plants, consumption is being gradually resumed in Portugal – first in the areas around these plants and progressively in more distant areas, said REN.

Meanwhile, Red Electric (Ree), a network operator of Spain, commented that electricity was restored in various regions, including Catalonia, Aragon, Basque and Andalusian country.
