Bitdeer held its first Mining Awards ceremony, naming leaders in the cryptocurrency mining industry. Antminer S21, which won the “Technological Breakthrough of the Year” category, went on sale in the fall of 2023. The device hashrate is 200 T with an energy efficiency ratio of 17.5 J/TH.
Foundry, which owns 28.1% of the global hashrate, was recognized as the mining pool of the year, and NiceHash was named the best cloud hashrate platform.
The winner in the “Mining Deal of the Year” category was Whatsminer. In December, it finalized a $380 million agreement with Phoenix Group to develop a strategy for developing environmentally friendly Bitcoin mining.
The organizer of the ceremony, the Bitdeer platform, was owned by Bitmain until 2021.
Last year, cryptocurrency miners accounted for up to 2.3% of all US energy consumption. According to data from the Energy Information Agency (EIA), Utah, for example, spent so much electricity.
