Bishop Edir Macedo becomes the target of crime news after comparing homosexuals with thieves

Bishop Edir Macedo, founder of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and owner of Grupo Record, was the target of a crime report last weekend by the National LGBTI+ Alliance and the Brazilian Association of Homotransfective Families (ABRAFH).

The groups claimed that the bishop was homophobic during his Christmas speech on Saturday (24), televised by TV Record.

“You weren’t born evil. Nobody is born bad. No one is born a thief, no one is born a thug, no one is homosexual or lesbian… no one is born bad… Bishop.

The president of the associations spoke out, saying that “comparing homosexuality to being a criminal is hate speech and we cannot tolerate it. May Macedo respond in accordance with the law”.

The coordinator of the legal area, Amanda Souto, said it was “perverse to use one of the biggest TV channels in the country, in prime time, during one of the main commemorative dates in the country, to propagate hatred”.
