Billionaire Rupert Murdoch and Ann Lesley Smith End Engagement Two Weeks After Announcement

Billionaire right-wing media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Ann Lesley Smith called off their engagement two weeks after announcing they were getting married, a person familiar with the matter told CNN .

Vanity Fair, which was the first to report this Tuesday (4), noted that “the separation ends a turbulent romance that has generated headlines around the world.”

Murdoch and Smith’s relationship became public earlier this year when they were photographed on vacation on the Caribbean island of Barbados.

On March 20, Cindy Adams, who writes a gossip column for Murdoch’s New York Post tabloid, reported that the two got engaged.

“I dreaded falling in love – but I knew this would be the last time,” Murdoch told Adams at the time. “It’s better to be [apaixonado]. I am happy, ”he added her.

Smith, who was once married to the late country singer Chester Smith, described her relationship with Murdoch as a “gift from God”.

The two were supposed to get married over the summer, according to Adams.

“We are both looking forward to spending the second half of our lives together,” Murdoch said at the time.

The marriage would have been the fifth for Murdoch, who is chairman of Fox Corp. and chief executive of News Corp.

It’s unclear what has happened between Murdoch and Smith since their engagement was announced. A spokesperson for the billionaire declined to comment.
