With this title and with the supertitle “Now the Greeks want to help us”, the BILD newspaper refers to a related statement – an invitation by the Minister of Tourism to pensioners from Germany to spend the difficult – due to the energy crisis – winter in Greece.
“During the financial crisis the Germans bailed out the Greeks with billions – now they want to give us something back: Greece offers asylum to Germans suffering from the price shock and energy scare,” the German newspaper wrote, hosting a statement of Mr. Kikilia: “For autumn and winter, it would be a great pleasure for us Greeks to welcome German retirees who want to experience a “Mediterranean winter” with Greek hospitality, mild weather and high quality service. We will be waiting for you here “, states the Minister of Tourism to BILD.
In the same publication, the mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, also made relevant statements: “We invite every German who wants to come to us this winter, to live here – away from the crises. Chania is the perfect place to face a crisis winter : warm, friendly people and probably the best year-round climate in the whole of Europe. We don’t even need heating at home,” says the mayor of Chania.
The real estate broker in Crete, Yiannis Kriaras, states to the German newspaper that “there is no natural gas crisis here” and adds that one can rent holiday homes or apartments in the winter from 300 euros (for one bedroom) and sublet the his home in his homeland.
The reporters of the German newspaper also convey the prices of basic products they found in the public market of Chania, such as 0.80 euro/kg for potatoes and 0.70 euro/kg for tomatoes, while pointing out that there are also discount supermarkets in the area but and German doctors.
